The County Executive’s Office and the Department of Health are working together to develop a plan should the County face a pandemic of the Avian Bird Flu or any other disease.
The first presentation of their effort will be made at the RBA’s May General Membership Luncheon. County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef and Commissioner of Health Joan Facelle will address the membership at the May 18 event, taking place at the Pearl River Hilton, from 11:30am to 1:30pm.
C.J. Miller, Director of Communications for Vanderhoef’s office, said the presentation will focus on education and preparedness. The Executive is cooperating with State and Federal offices in creating this plan. Miller said that the presentation could be scary to hear, but that it is important the County have some kind of plan.
"It will be helping Rockland County prepare for the possibility of a pandemic, including contingency plans for businesses. It’s not just a medical threat, but an economic threat as well," said Miller.
"Sometimes when you watch the news you don’t immediately realize that these issues really can affect you locally. It is important for us to learn how the County would deal with the situation and what role the business community has to play," RBA CEO and President Al Samuels said.
Seats are $35 for members and $55 for non-members.
