Dr. Edward F. Lundy a Pennsylvania doctor of national renown, will head a new $25 million Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital. The hospital hopes the institute will lessen the county's high rate of death from heart disease.
"Dramatically reducing that high mortality rate is our primary goal," said Lundy, who has directed the Open Heart Surgery Program at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania since 1991.
The institute, named the Active International Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital, is officially scheduled to open later this year. An agreement in principle was reached between Active International, a Pearl River based marketing and business solutions company, and the hospital. Active has agreed to create a series of fundraising activities designed to raise $2.5 million.
The Institute will offer open-heart surgery, primary angioplasty for acute heart attack, elective angioplasty to relieve potential blockages and other cardiovascular procedures. Patients will be able to remain with Good Samaritan Hospital for virtually all of their advanced cardiac care, instead of having to endure a transfer to an out-of-area hospital.
"We’ve been trying to get this in Rockland for fourteen years," RBA CEO and President Al Samuels said. |
