PEARL RIVER – A new idea is emerging through the Rockland Business Association's Technology Initiative; use New York State’s Wireless Communities and Wired Buildings Grant Program to gain funding for wifi internet access in the newly attained Rockland County Empire Zone. The State recently announced an additional $2.5 million in funding for the program, which offers grants for communities seeking to expand their broadband access.

The Technology Initiative invites you to attend its Thursday, September 7 meeting, 4:00-6:00PM at Dominican College’s Prusmack Center for Health and Science Education, Lecture Hall, Rm. #126. You will hear from leaders who have implemented wifi strategy and providers who have installed the systems. What are the benefits and what does it mean for Rockland?

Andrew Halpern, President of American WiFi; Dennis Graham, Director of Telecommunications of the Empire State Development Corporation; and Anthony Campagiorni, President/CEO of Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation will be addressing the gathering. The RBA has invited 41 elected officials to the event.

"These are grants worth up to $200,000 that nobody in Rockland has taken advantage of yet. Supervisors, mayors, planners, business owners and anyone interested in tech development should attend this session. The RBA will also share some information on another grant program; Build Now-NY. There's help out there and the RBA wants to ensure you get a piece of it," RBA CEO and President Al Samuels said.

"The Empire Zone designation provides financial incentives in order to help local businesses compete. New York State's Wired Communities and Wired Buildings Grant Program can be implemented to support the Empire Zone designations by not only providing the financial incentives but perhaps the most important differentiator to level the playing field; access," Co-Chair of the Technology Initiative Les Neumann said.

"Whether large or small, companies depend on timely access to information. Information concerning your competitors, efficient inventory control and on time ordering of products, the delivery of goods and services and opening up your firm to a potential world-wide market," Neumann added.
