One of the RBA's newest members is the Nanuet location of the retail chain store Eastern Mountain Sports.
Eastern Mountain serves the "outdoor athlete." Recently it closed its store in the Palisades Center Mall and started a search for a new, larger locale in the Rockland area. Ultimately the destination chosen was the Rockland Plaza, across Route 59 from the Nanuet Mall.
The store held its grand opening on November 2. RBA CEO and President Al Samuels and Clarkstown Town Clerk David Carlucci were both on hand to officially cut the ribbon. Samuels, an avid outdoorsman and hiker, said the store was like a playground for him.
Store manager Mike Schwartz was very excited about the new location, which he said was quite a bit larger in size and more comprehensive in its catalog than the previous location. All levels of experience from beginner to advanced are catered to at the new store, he said.

Description of company from EMS website at www.ems.com
Eastern Mountain Sports was founded in 1967 in Wellesley Massachusetts by two rock climbers who had become dissatisfied with the selection of climbing equipment they found in existing stores. In addition to selling climbing gear, they added a selection of camping equipment in hopes of making money from the hobby that had turned into a viable business.
From this small store outside Boston Massachusetts, EMS has grown into one of the nation's leading outdoor specialty retailers, with more than 80 retail stores, as well as a formidable online presence. The company is now based in Peterborough, New Hampshire. |
