RCC's Liberty Partnership program has new Director

December 12, 2005
by Dylan Skriloff

Mimi Hoffman has been appointed the new Director of the Liberty Partnership program at SUNY Rockland Community College. The mentorship program, which is funded by a state grant, prepares high-school students for success in college by teaching them academic and social skills and orienting them with local colleges. Students are chosen in 9th or 10th grade and remain in the program through graduation.

Currently 110 students from North Rockland, East Ramapo and Nyack school districts are part of the program. School districts choose candidates from students who are earnest about success but need extra help developing academic and/or social skills.

Hoffman will be escorting students to orientations at St. Thomas Aquinas College, Nyack College and SUNY Rockland this fall. She has plans to reach further into the community and maximize resources in helping the program advance. She is working to form partnerships with Rockland’s youth employment program and the AmeriCorps community service program.

Prior to taking the position as director of the Liberty Partnership, Hoffman had worked as a coordinator with the Rockland 21C Education Collaborative and has been involved in social work and a variety of counseling positions since 1970.
