The 11th annual Averell Harriman International Trade Awards, hosted this year by the Rockland Business Association, will be held May 23 at Dellwood Country Club in New City.
Awards will be presented in nine categories,
- Exporter under $10 million
- Exporter $10 million to $50 million
- Importer of the Year
- New to International Trade
- Service Provider of the Year
- Trade Partner of the Year
- Foreign Direct Investment of the Year
- International Company of the Year (sales over $50 million)
- Special Recognition Award.
Any company from the Hudson Valley counties of Rockland, Orange, Ulster, Sullivan, Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess, involved in international trade, is eligible for consideration of these prestigious recognitions. All are encouraged to participate in the tabletop expo held during the two-hour cocktail reception.
When Rockland County last hosted the event, in 2000, 40 companies reserved exhibited. Approximately 200 companies attend the event every year.
"International trade is vital to our region’s economy. This event raises awareness of that and it is an honor when it is Rockland’s turn to host," RBA CEO and President Al Samuels said.
"This also highlights our region as one of the premier areas encouraging participation in the global economy," he added.
The Awards were founded in 1996 to recognize companies and individuals who have excelled in international trade in the Hudson Valley. Averell Harriman, son of railroad magnate Edward Harriman, was a banker, business man, politician, one-term New York governor and special US envoy to Europe during World War II. He lived from 1891-1986.
The Platinum Sponsor for the dinner this year and for the past several years is HSBC Bank. Media sponsors include the newly formed, RB-sponsored, Rockland Business Digest, the Hudson Valley Business Journal and the Westchester County Business Journal.
The Trade Expo portion of the event will be featured during the cocktail reception and networking portion of the event from 5pm to 7pm. A booth display costs $275. The dinner and awards presentation will run from 7pm to 9pm.
