The business community of Rockland's official voice, the RBA, now has a new logo. The sleek new design promises to soon be one of the most recognizable symbols in the County.

The RBA board of directors and CEO/President Al Samuels commissioned the logo, which represents the association's continuing growth and openness to change. It replaces the old-fashioned logo of past years which featured three pyramids, each larger than the last, ascending like a staircase.

"We have so many new events, subsidiaries, activities and members it was time to make a change," Samuels said. "We believe the RBA now has a logo representative of who we are; open, embracing, strong, ascending new heights, the 'gold standard' of business associations," Samuels said.

While the logo is not strictly symbolic it does contain some symbolisms. The inverted gold pyramid in the 'A' of the logo is a reference to the RBA's "gold standard business association" claim and also is an acknowledgement of the old logo. The swooping crescent extending from the 'A' represents the association's open and encompassing nature.

Graphic Designer and RBA member Steve Powell, President of Co-oper8 Marketing Group was the person responsible for the design. He had in fact created 22 different logos over an eight month period. "It was a long process. I am pleased I came up with something the RBA can go forward with for years to come. The look and feel really represents the RBA well," Powell said.

"Mr. Powell did an excellent job. We think the logo will help the RBA accomplish its mission of bringing business people together to build a stronger Rockland," board chairman Howard Hellman said.

Samuels said that when he took the job 4 years ago there were already plans to make a change. One sign that it was definitely time for a logo change is that the three-pyramid design was causing the postal service's scanners to read the RBA's return address as the forwarding address.

"When I heard that, I knew it was the right time to change the logo," Samuels said with a laugh.
