New member already an RBA record setter
August 17, 2005
by Dylan Skriloff

Orange County CPA Paul Rafanello is fairly new to the RBA community, joining in January, but his involvement is already making an impact on his business and on the association. He has recruited nine potential members to the new membership recruitment/networking program "BRING A PROSPECT…MEET PROSPECTS!"

While RBA CEO Al Samuels and VP Roger Scheiber are convinced he has a magic formula, Rafanello says his secret to luring potential members was simple; he merely asked them.

Actually, there is a bit more to it than that. Rafanello has met many business people in Orange County who wish, like him, to expand into Rockland. He has told them that joining the RBA is an important way to make the necessary connections. In fact, 25 percent of the RBA membership is headquartered outside the County, Samuels noted. Rafanello says he spends about ten hours a week networking and has built up a strong reputation in his circle.

"There is a large network of people I deal with and they have confidence in what I tell them," he said. Among Rafanello’s prospects are two life coaches, an interior designer, a photographer and several people from the financial industry.

Though his office is in Warwick, Orange County a lot of his business is coming from Rockland; that’s why he joined the RBA. Rafanello has known Samuels and RBA Board Chair Howard Hellman of All Bright Electric for a long time because he used to work in New City. Hellman really pushed him to get involved with the RBA, advising him that the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.

"The RBA has been invaluable," Rafanello said.

In addition to the usual CPA duties of filing returns for corporations, non-profits and individuals and doing financial statements, Rafanello also is a quick-books pro advisor and a public speaker.
