Every spring, a contingent of Rockland Business Association members heads to Albany for Small Business Day, joining business people and economic advocates from around the State, looking to make an impression on Capital Hill lawmakers.
This year Small Business Day falls on Tuesday, March 28. Gatherers will meet at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. Issues high on the business community’s agenda include high energy costs, high health insurance costs, high taxes, fixing the workers compensation system and reforming 240-241 and Wicks Law.
Gubernatorial candidates Eliot Spitzer and William Weld are expected to speak and there will be a keynote speech from departing Governor George E. Pataki, assuming he is in good health. A panel discussion will be held by business leaders on the matters that Albany most needs to address to assist business development.
Small Business Day is co-sponsored by The Business Council of New York State, Inc., The National Federation of Independent Businesses and the Chamber Alliance of New York State, of which the RBA is a member.
"Small Business Day is the best opportunity we have each year to speak directly to lawmakers. It is an opportunity to make a connection on the issues we, as a community, care about," RBA CEO and President Al Samuels said.
