New York State’s Attorney General and gubernatorial hopeful Eliot Spitzer (D) will be the keynote speaker at the Rockland Business Association’s annual Celebrity Dinner in November.
"Attorney General Spitzer has been a prolific legal investigator since taking office; now we’ll have a chance to hear his thoughts on a broad range of topics," RBA President and CEO Al Samuels said.
Spitzer’s appearance in Rockland also offers RBA members and the public an important opportunity to assess the man who could be the next governor of the state. "We know a lot of our members would like to hear from him to inform themselves politically for next fall’s election, be they Republican or Democrat," Samuels said.
Spitzer’s appearance continues an RBA tradition of attracting high profile guest speakers for its annual dinner from the entire political spectrum and beyond politics as well. Past speakers at the dinner include former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, Yankees Manager Joe Torre, TV Anchorwoman Paula Zahn and Oliver North.
"The celebrity dinner is a hallmark event. We’re proud to offer our members and the public another opportunity to meet one of the biggest names in New York," Samuels said.
Spitzer ran for Attorney General unsuccessfully in 1994 before winning a tight contest in 1998 and taking office in January 1, 1999. Supporters have named him "The People’s Lawyer" for his investigation of several landmark cases that have had far-reaching impacts.

In 2002 he was named Time Magazine’s "Crusader of the Year" for his investigations into ten of the nation’s largest securities firms. He has sued mid-western power companies for creating the pollution that causes acid rain to fall in the Northeast and has led investigations that helped create national precedents in arenas such as investor protection, labor rights for green grocery workers and the design and distribution of handguns.
The dinner will take place Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at the Hilton in Pearl River. Cocktails will be served at 6:00 pm and the dinner will take place from 7:30 -10:00. You can register early for this year’s dinner by:
