| Repairs continue on the Tappan Zee Bridge as Lower Hudson Valley residents await word on the future of the behemoth.
The deck of the bridge is to be replaced over the next two to three years. The Thruway Authority called the work a necessary interim measure to ensure the safety of commuters, before a final alternative is completed sometime next decade.
"This project is part of the Authority’s commitment to fulfill its responsibility to maintain and operate the bridge by continuing to make the necessary investments to assure safe and efficient travel for the thousands of motorists that cross the bridge daily," Division Director of the New York State Thruway Authority, Ramesh Mehta said.

Deck replacement work will take place primarily during off-peak, overnight shifts from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Only occasional single lane closures will occur during the day and deck replacement materials will be manufactured off-site, reducing noise and shortening overall duration of the project.
RBA President/CEO Al Samuels will attend a briefing about the deck replacement project on October 27 at the NYSTA offices in Suffern.
