Lucky Strike Lanes, America's First "Bowling Lounge," to open at Palisades Center!

December 21 , 2006

Lucky Strike's 14th location nationally will feature 12 bowling lanes, 40-foot bar, game room, 100-seat dining room

WEST NYACK, N.Y. (Dec. 21) -- The much-anticipated opening of Lucky Strike Lanes at the Palisades Center will bring a new category of entertainment and dining experience to the New York metropolitan area.

Scheduled to open on Dec. 31, Lucky Strike will occupy 23,000 square feet of space on the fourth level of the Palisades Center and will feature 12 bowling lanes, a 40-foot bar, a game room, a 100-seat dining room, six billiards tables, ping pong, eight rollerball lanes (mini bowling) and air hockey. It will be the company’s 14th location after successful debuts in most of the nation’s major cities including Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Miami, Washington, D.C., Hollywood and Philadelphia.

"Lucky Strike is America's first true bowling lounge and will be the region's hottest new venue for special events appealing to families, businesses and singles," said Peter Janoff, the general manager of the Palisades Center. "Lucky Strike will bring another interactive entertainment experience to the fourth level of the Center.'

An ideal location for private parties and special events, Lucky Strike Lanes is marked by its singularly upscale ambiance, typically uncharacteristic of a bowling alley, combining vintage elements and 1940s touches with modern décor. Paramount among its many features are cutting edge images of projected artwork from many of today's hottest artists, beamed floor-to-ceiling onto high-resolution video screens at the end of each lane.

Lucky Strike Lanes is the brainchild of the husband and wife team of Steven and Gillian Foster. The couple has been in the business of developing striking entertainment venues for more than 25 years, many of which incorporate modern twists on vintage pastimes. For the Lucky Strike concept, Steven was honored with the 2006 Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Ernst & Young.

"In the 20s and 30s, bowling alleys were the sophisticated social centers of their time," said Steven Foster. "In the last couple of generations, they became a downscale phenomenon. But all good things are cyclical. We see this not as a novelty or a trend or the latest thing. We’re doing with bowling what we hope to do with art -- make an age-old experience accessible within a social environment. It has not been attempted on this level before and we are happy to bring this experience to the Palisades Center."

With a capacity for nearly 700 patrons, Lucky Strike’s newest location will feature:

  • 12 state-of-the-art lanes with automatic scoring and the latest in ball return technology
  • Custom lounge seating replacing the traditional molded plastic chairs
  • A warm intimate contemporary décor with a 1930s/1940s feel
  • A 100-foot by 10-foot video wall over the pins exhibiting current shows from emerging artists of all genres -- graphic, photographic, video, fine, etc., as well as music videos, film clips, and customized images for special events
  • A 100-seat restaurant plus full-service dining at all 12 lanes

An innovative menu, described by The L.A. Times as one that "speaks to the inner child," was created by Bill Starbuck, Executive Chef of Lucky Strike. Bill has provided the food for most of Hollywood's high profile movie premieres, Emmy and Grammy festivities and private parties for A-list celebrities. Lucky Strike offers a menu unlike that found at any traditional bowling center. Along with gourmet pizzas, sandwiches and hamburgers, the menu includes such unique items to share such as the tomato and cheese s'mores and ancho citrus chicken skewers and the wildly popular mac and cheese bites.

"We've created Lucky Strike Lanes to be an imaginative, intimate, hospitality-driven environment that appeals to all ages," said Steven Foster. "Our success across the country is based on the uniqueness of the experience that we offer to our customers."

The Fosters expect families and children during Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons as well as business people for weekday lunch hour (with a food-and-bowling offer). They also expect a cocktail crowd, couples on dates, dinner guests, corporate parties, private events and a late night lounge scene (after 9 p.m. Lucky Strike Lanes will be 21-and-over).
