At the age of 40, Bruce Weinfeld of New City decided it was time to take a big risk and fulfill his dreams. The result: the upcoming independent movie "All Screwed Up," with most of it shot in Rockland. Now, Weinfeld, who prefers his production name "Bud Rebel," wants to share his creation and the films of other independent filmmakers in what would be Rockland's first countywide film festival.
"I thought it would be really cool to do something here in Rockland County and support the people who helped me get to be successful," Rebel said. He recently formed the non-profit group "A Dream of a Lifetime" made up of local actors, marketers, and other business people who share his vision for a film festival in Rockland.
The group, now an RBA member, hopes to involve other Rockland businesses in their endeavor to make the festival a success. "We want to make the festival as big as the community wants it to be," Rebel said. "We want groups who get involved to be successful."
This year's festival will feature films the whole family can enjoy. It will also feature the debut of Rebel's film. The tentative start date for the festival is May 18, 2008, and will most likely be held at IBM Palisades Executive Conference Center in Palisades, NY.
The RBA's Hospitality and Tourism Alliance will work with A Dream of a Lifetime to bring the festival into reality. "The HTA has been trying to create a film festival for more than a year and Bud Rebel has come along and created this opportunity with great interest among the membership to support his success," RBA Vice President Development Roger Scheiber said.
The festival is now being supported by private donations, but Rebel said they are still looking for large corporate sponsors.
All film makers can submit their films for consideration into the festival through an application found on their website www.rocklandfilmfestival.com. Also on the website, are instructions for joining the group and ticket information. |
