Sara Tucker believes you get what you give. “You have to be involved in your community to reap a reward from it,” Tucker said. “That’s my philosophy and it has served me well.”
Indeed community plays an important role in Tucker’s life, as the Senior Business Relationship Manager at HSBC Bank and the Rockland Business Association’s newest Ambassador.
Throughout her career Tucker remained involved in her area. She majored in Economics at SUNY Binghamton University and obtained an MBA from New York University. Tucker worked in financial services for about 10 years before taking a break from banking in 1993 to raise her children.
During this time, Tucker dove deeper into the community. She became very involved in fundraising for non-profits including work for the Hudson Valley Children’s Museum and Leadership Rockland. Additionally, Tucker served as South Orangetown Board of Education President from 2001 to 2004. More recently, she worked for the Piermont Public Library as its capital campaign manager until early 2007.
Tucker, 47, joined HSBC in January 2007. “I felt like it was time to work full time again,” she said. “I really wanted to utilize my MBA and banking skills again in Rockland and help entrepreneurs here.”
Tucker will assist local entrepreneurs in her new role as an RBA ambassador. In this position, she will offer guidance to new members on how they can best utilize their membership.
Tucker’s advice for new members: “Try to attend as many of the events, committee meetings and forums at first as you can to determine which one is going to benefit your business the most, meet as many people as possible, develop your own network, and find resources for your business.”
The Small Business Council and Women’s Forum are where Tucker found her niche. “I found them to be very informative with great networking opportunity,” she said. Tucker lives in Piermont with her husband and two sons ages 12 and 15.
