Although the withdrawal symptoms from all of the holiday treats indulged in this season are starting to set in, do not fret—a world of chocolate is coming your way. For the first time, Rockland County will host Chocolate World Expo: a celebration of everything that is chocolate.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Expo will take place on Sunday, February 10, 2008, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Palisades Center Mall, near the Palisades Center Ice Rink.
Proceeds from Chocolate World Expo will benefit Venture Foundation and their campaign to offer a year-round therapeutic riding program. “We’re really very excited about Chocolate World Expo because it’s a great way for us to help people with special needs,” said Barbara Reece, executive director of the Venture Foundation.
Additionally, five percent of the net proceeds will go to the Spring Valley, NY-based Holocaust Museum and Study Center’s efforts to combat intolerance through lessons of the Holocaust and another five percent will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rockland County.
The Expo will provide a boost to the hospitality and tourism industries in Rockland. “It’s the type of event that will attract visitors from outside Rockland and have an economic benefit to the county,” said Roger Scheiber, vice president, development for the Rockland Business Association and adviser to the Hospitality and Tourism Alliance. “The HTA is very impressed with the professionalism of event organizer Marvin Baum and his ability to grow this into a major tourism attraction for the county.”
The Expo will feature tastings and sales of gourmet chocolates, baked goods, specialty foods, cheeses, ice cream, and much more. Attendees will receive money-saving coupons and enjoy a variety of entertainment throughout the day.
Participating vendors include Oliver Kita Fine Confections, Le Chocolat, Heidi & Arthur Chocolatiers, Entenmann’s, Isn’t It Sweet, Bee-Alive, Red Thread Confections, Bella’s Biscotti, Black & White Cookie Company, Lucky Chocolates, Lanie Lou’s Brownies, Brooklyn Fudge, Cabot Creamery, Ives Cream, Dutch Desserts, Organic Nectars, Pazdar Winery, Colebrook Country Wines, Krazy for Kazu’s, Beechwood House Originals and many others. People seeking kosher, organic, fair-trade and even low glycemic products will have a number of choices available.
The Expo will also feature long-time chocolate companion, wine. “We have the only major chocolate show in the New York metropolitan area where people can enjoy free wine tastings from multiple wineries, talk directly with the winemakers and purchase wines onsite,” said Marvin Baum of Baum Image Group, creator of Chocolate World Expo.
Admission to Chocolate World Expo is $8 for adults, if purchased online, or $10 at the door. Children and seniors pay only $4 online or $5 at the door. Children under 5 are free.
All Chocolate World Expo attendees will receive a 2-for-1 coupon for the Palisades Center Ice Rink, which has public skating sessions at 1:10 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. plus the first 10,000 visitors will get a coupon good towards a free $10 Dave & Buster’s game play card with the purchase of a $10 game card. Other money-saving coupons will also be given out on the day of the event.
