Green is growing at the Rockland Business Association
May 5, 2008

In connection with Earth Month, the Rockland Business Association’s Green Council has deepened its roots. The council extended the focus of its message as well as created a structure that is designed to benefit the environmentally conscious Rockland Business community.

“It has become apparent that environmental issues must be addressed for the good of the planet,” said Roger Scheiber, committee adviser and RBA VP, Membership Development. “This committee will concentrate on helping businesses in their practices and lead the way in promoting economically competitive Green business.”

The committee drafted a mission statement, which is not yet finalized, stating their purpose is: To educate, promote, and advocate to the business community the benefits of adopting Green principles.

Additionally, five subcommittees have been formed.

  • The Government Affairs subcommittee chaired by Charles Frankel (Commercial Ventures Group) will develop the Council’s positions on advocacy as well as participate in the larger RBA Government Affairs Committee.

  • The Took Kit subcommittee chaired by Frank Lauricella (Daylight Savings Company) will create a tool kit providing the necessary resources to solve problems related to Greening, provide low cost/no cost solutions, and share ideas about how carbon credits may be utilized by RBA members and others.

  • The Communications subcommittee chaired by Deborah Rosenberg (Greenman-Pederson, Inc.) will promote the Green Council to RBA membership. It will also provide links to resources outlining Green concepts such as how to be Greener in business and how to operate a business within environmental regulations.

  • The Informational Seminar subcommittee chaired by Richard Struck (Orange & Rockland Utilities, Inc.) will develop a seminar on Green and business.

  • Lastly, the Green Business Certification subcommittee chaired by Susan Kenney (Skyline Displays) will acknowledge Green businesses in the RBA as well as find ways to help businesses become Green certified.
