And the Winners are:
Michael Shilale, AIA, co-hosted a radio show with SUEZ NY on WRCR 1700AM. Michael and the RBA Green Council are grateful to SUEZ NY for the opportunity to spend some time on the air to highlight some recent successes of the Council and what is new and sustainable in Rockland County.
Michael enjoyed some playful banter with his cohost Bill Madden the director of communications for SUEZ NY and their guests. They were joined by Charmaine Cigliano from Orange and Rockland and Supervisor Howard Phillips the chairman of the RC Solid Waste Authority.
Last fall we had a great ‘red’ carpet, ‘black tie’ pre-awards gala for all the winners of our 7th annual green awards, and SUEZ has offered us the radio air time to do that again for our 8th annual RBA Green Awards this coming fall.
The Green Council is proud to have Suez Water NY as their RBA Subsidiary Group Sponsor. Suez has released a new Water Conservation Initiative. We hope to recognize some early adopters of this new conservation program with a Green Award in the Water Conservation Category. On June 1st, the RBA Green Council co-hosted a Tappan Zee Bridge Tour that was sold out.
A romantic afternoon on a Mississippi style paddle boat, RBA members sailed from Haverstraw Marina to the new bridge.
Once arriving at the bridge, Dan Marcy, who serves as the Community Relations Specialist for the New NY Bridge, treated members and their guests to a fascinating and instructive talk about the trials and tribulations of building the nation’s largest infrastructure project. Their efforts to minimize the environmental impact of this massive project were significant and were highlighted during the presentation.
The RBA Green Council is looking forward to the possibility of cooperating with Leadership Rockland on their Environment Day. We hope to implement a Green Certification program, are coordinating with Keep Rockland Beautiful on a building tour series, and hope to facilitate a solid waste summit to help improve Rockland County diversion rates.
One thing is clear to us at the RBA Green Council, saving energy, conserving water, reducing waste and improving transportation all make good economic and environmental sense and are critical to the future of Rockland County.
The RBA Green Awards and General Membership Luncheon was held on October 20th with Orange & Rockland Utilities as the lunch sponsor and with Michael Shilale, architect and RBA Green Council Chair who orchestrated the ceremony.
Awards were given out to:
